Toyota Takes the Prius to the Next Level

We've all heard about how Toyota is expanding the Prius family to feature a total of four models, but did you know that the Japanese automaker is planning another big move for the lauded hybrid? Overseas, in Japan more specifically, Toyota is planning to unleash the Prius onto the race track for the Super GT Series.
Yeah, we know, the Prius isn't exactly the first image that comes to mind when you picture an edge-of-your-seat racer, but we assure you, they have thought this through. After all, we here at KC Summers Toyota wouldn't be reporting to you on it otherwise.
The reason behind this bold move is that the Super GT Series is actually featuring stricter guidelines this year in terms of performance. That means there will be a cap on horsepower within certain segments, which is meant to encourage participating automakers to explore new realms of performance.
For Toyota, and at least one other fellow Japanese automaker, that realm is hybrid tech. After all, hybrids contribute a different form of performance to the track: fuel economy. The further that a vehicle can go without need to refuel, the fewer complications there will be on the track. Furthermore, hybrid models like the Prius often feature regenerative braking technologies, which can help power other components with fewer complications.
High-speed racer or not, we still think that the Toyota Prius is a sure bet for any driver who's looking to save a few dollars at the gas pump.
